Utah Motorsports Campus, Corner by Corner — From the Driver's Seat

SoCal Rustlers #180 cornering at Utah Motorsports Campus

Shawn Sampson |

Utah Motorsports Campus, corner by corner, from the driver's seat. During Sunday's World Racing League race, SRC owner Shawn Sampson talked through a full lap of UMC while driving it — where to brake, where to turn in, where the track gives time back and where it takes it away — with the on-board camera running the whole way.

Seven minutes, one lap, and the driver's own thinking out loud. If you have a race or a track day coming up at Utah, this is the lap to watch before you go.

Some context for where this falls in the weekend: it is about five hours into the race. We fought ABS problems the whole weekend, but the car was running fantastic.

The clip above starts and stops in the right place on its own. Watching on YouTube instead? It runs from 6:47:00 to 6:54:00 in the Sunday race stream — jump straight to it here.

How this clip gets made

Two systems are doing the work. The SRC Inline IMSA Race Audio Recording System puts the driver and crew radio traffic straight onto the video, so the commentary is on the tape alongside the picture — no second recorder, no syncing afterwards. The camera is a MyRaces.Live in-car system, streaming the race live to the crew and to friends and family around the world.
