For Shawn Sampson, racing wasn't something he discovered later in life. He was born into a racing family and grew up at racetracks across the United States, surrounded by race cars, drivers, crews, and the constant challenge of making equipment perform in demanding conditions.

Those early years at the track eventually helped shape what would become Sampson Racing Communications (SRC) and its approach to racing and professional communication systems.

For more than three decades, SRC has focused on solving a problem every racer understands:

How do you communicate clearly when everything around you is loud?

As a racer himself, Sampson understood that reliable communication wasn't simply a convenience. When a driver is at speed and surrounded by engine, wind, tire, and track noise, clear communication between the driver and crew can play an important role in strategy, safety, and performance.

Racing Radio Communication Systems

Today, Sampson Racing Communications provides communication equipment for racers ranging from grassroots competitors to professional and endurance racing teams.

SRC racing communication products include digital and analog two-way racing radios, in-car radio systems, driver helmet kits, noise-canceling crew headsets, push-to-talk controls, antennas, intercom systems, and complete driver-to-crew communication packages.

SRC systems are used in multiple forms of motorsports, including road racing, endurance racing, drifting, off-road racing, and other high-noise racing applications.

SRC also specializes in boat racing radio communication systems, where high engine noise, wind, water, vibration, and distance create many of the same communication challenges found in auto racing.

Real-World Testing for High-Noise Environments

One of the principles behind SRC is that communication equipment needs to be tested where customers actually use it.

SRC conducts real-world testing in demanding environments rather than relying only on specifications and bench testing.

Motorsports provides an especially challenging proving ground for communication equipment, exposing radios, headsets, microphones, wiring, and connections to extreme noise, vibration, heat, long operating periods, and the physical demands of competition.

That experience has helped SRC develop communication solutions for applications well beyond traditional auto racing.

In-House Communication System Design & Technical Support

Sampson Racing Communications does more than sell radios and headsets.

SRC provides in-house communication system design and technical support, working directly with customers to determine the correct equipment and configuration for their particular application.

Depending on the project, SRC can help design a complete communication system incorporating two-way radios, wireless headsets, noise-canceling microphones, PTT controls, antennas, cabling, Bluetooth connections, intercoms, and specialized communication interfaces.

The goal is to provide customers with a system designed around how they actually work rather than simply selling individual components.

Bluetooth Wireless Headsets Beyond Motorsports

Airboats, marine operations, Search & Rescue teams, wildlife personnel, government field operations, industrial crews, and private-sector organizations all face a problem familiar to racers:

Communicating clearly in extremely noisy environments.

This has created a growing role for SRC's Bluetooth wireless communication headsets.

These systems can combine hearing protection, noise-canceling microphones, Bluetooth technology, and hands-free communication in a single headset.

Certain configurations can also integrate with conventional two-way radios, allowing team members to communicate wirelessly with one another while retaining push-to-talk access to personnel operating on a larger radio network.

For users who need both hands available to drive, operate a boat, handle equipment, or perform rescue work, hands-free communication can provide a significant advantage.

The Future of Two-Way Communications

SRC believes the future of professional communications will increasingly combine two-way radio, Bluetooth, cellular networks, and satellite internet connectivity such as Starlink rather than relying on a single communication technology.

The headset can become the central interface connecting a user to multiple communication sources.

Depending on the system and application, personnel can have access to traditional two-way radio communications, Bluetooth intercom, cellular communications, and internet-based communications through a single hands-free hearing-protection headset.

For motorsports, this creates possibilities beyond traditional race car-to-pit radio communication.

As cellular and satellite internet connectivity becomes increasingly available at racing facilities and remote venues, communication systems can connect drivers, crew members, spotters, pit personnel, support vehicles, race operations, and team members located elsewhere at the facility.

The same technology can be applied to Search & Rescue, marine operations, airboats, industrial crews, wildlife operations, and government field teams.

Instead of choosing between radio, cellular, Bluetooth, or internet communication, teams can use the communication method best suited to the situation while maintaining a familiar headset interface.

From Auto Racing to Boat Racing and Beyond

SRC boat racing communications

Despite SRC's expansion into new markets and technologies, racing remains at the heart of Sampson Racing Communications.

From growing up in a racing family and spending his childhood at racetracks around the country to racing himself and building a company around motorsports communications, Shawn Sampson's experience has kept SRC closely connected to the people who actually use its products.

Whether the application is a race car at speed, a high-powered race boat, an airboat operating in extreme noise, or a Search & Rescue team working in the field, the fundamental challenge is remarkably similar.

Communication has to work when the environment is doing everything possible to make communication difficult.

By combining generations of racing experience with real-world product testing, in-house system design, direct technical support, Bluetooth wireless technology, two-way radio communications, cellular networks, and emerging satellite connectivity, Sampson Racing Communications continues to apply knowledge developed at the racetrack to an expanding range of professional high-noise environments.

The technology continues to evolve, but the philosophy behind SRC remains straightforward:

When the environment gets loud, communication still has to work.
